Orlando Half Marathon (Joannesburg) · 13 December 2015

Because there are a lot of income generating projects and saving groups that we want to start implementing during Marta´s 6 month´s volunteering placement.

Story

Thanks for supporting me in my first half marathon!

In Communities for Development our humble goal is to help people like you and me to improve their financial ability to achieve better conditions of life, to be more self-sufficient, to awake and develop theirentrepreneurial instincts, and above all, to alleviate the poverty in which they live in order to offer a more prosperous and sustainable future for the coming generations.

Marta, our first volunteer in the field, is working hard in the Bulambuli district in eastern part of Uganda within a 6 months placement as a project coordinator.

She is working together with the community members on creating new VSLA initiatives (community-based microsavings groups) as well as helping them start up their own income generating activities (as the ones you can see in the pictures) and implement social projects in the area.

About the campaign

About the charity

Communities for Development (CfD) was born with a clear objective, to help improve the lives of some of the poorest people in rural Uganda. Our approach includes the delivery of business and skills training and the creation of microfinance savings groups to help communities self-develop. We then assist these community members to start up their own income generating activities, to allow families to meet their basic everyday needs and further improve their long term quality of life. Communities for Development firmly believes that the community must be at the heart of their own development and this philosophy is ingrained into everything we do.
