Story
In 2016, we lost my dad to Huntington’s disease after many years of being in and out of hospital. If there was a top trumps of the worst disease you could get, then this one would be up there. It is a relatively rare neuro degenerative condition, which is inherited and gradually kills off nerve cells in the brain leading to loss of language, reasoning, thinking ,memory, co-ordination and movement. There is a 50% chance of those who have HD passing it on to their children. My siblings and I have had unbelievable luck and none of us carry the gene, however others are not so fortunate.
Huntington’s Disease Association(HDA) aims to improve the care and support services for people living with Huntington's, educate families and professionals and champion people’s rights and the needs of the Huntington’s community and influence decision makers. The HDA hugely helped my dad over the years and my mum knows first-hand how important their work is.
Seeing someone you love decline in health physically and mentally is something I wish for no one and this is what this fundraising is about - so HDA can continue to support families and studies into finding a cure to stop what happened to us happening to others.
Thank you so much for your donation, it is SO appreciated and will certainly motivate me to get to that finish line!
Dad - this one's for you! XXX
