Story
We know that improving education transforms lives, so helping to provide free tuition to children with EAL is important to us. We love getting involved with local initiatives in our home town and volunteering with Jacari Oxford has given some of our team the chance to bring their education knowledge to EAL learners in Oxford, even while learning has been online.
Jacari is an award-winning charity that aims to improve the confidence and language skills of refugee, asylum-seeking and migrant children in Oxford and Bristol who have English as an additional language (EAL). Jacari runs a free tuition scheme supported by volunteer tutors who provide fun, informal weekly English lessons to their pupils. The Covid-19 pandemic has severely affected children with EAL, leaving them socially isolated, with very limited opportunities to practise their English. Many were unable to access online lessons during lockdowns due to the language barrier and lack of technology at home and are now months behind their peers. Never has there been a greater need for extra tuition. As a result of the pandemic, Jacari is experiencing an increase in demand for their tuition programme and need your help now, more than ever to fund this vital support.
