Story
We are a group of people whose lives were changed forever on 19th January when an avalanche in Glencoe took the lives of four wonderful young people, two of whom we were lucky enough to call good friends. Glencoe Mountain Rescue were there to get them back to their families, along with helping our two other friends, one of whom was seriously injured, who survived in the avalanche.
I knew these guys from medical school, but also did wilderness medicine training (and in Una's case, also finals training!) and general outdoor activities with them. Una and Rachel loved the outdoors and were never happier than when they were muddy, up a hill and anticipating a night in a bothy or similar. They filled our lives with adventure, laughter and friendship. We are endlessly grateful to the Mountain Rescue for getting our other friend out of the snow, and give her the chance for a recovery that continues to be more amazing than we could ever have hoped.
We are doing a triathlon of events in their memory and to raise money for the Glencoe Mountain Rescue who do their work in the most dangerous and difficult circumstances. The events are:
- Edinburgh Half Marathon, Sunday 26th May
- Great North Swim - Sunday 16th June
- Cyclone Cycle - Saturday 29th June
Now, let's be clear... it's been a while since I did any running, and the most swimming I've ever done is that associated with some sunshine and a beach hat - so I need all the help I can get!
We would love your pennies to keep us motivated, but most importantly we're hoping to bring everyone together as they would want us to, so any support, be it a cheerful message on here or a wave at one of the events would be much welcomed! Any donations to this page will be added to our team total - so donate here or there, it all gets added to the same pot!
Lots of love and many thanks,
Karin xxx
