Story
Thanks for visiting my page.
So.......I can't actually believe I'm even contemplating this but I'm going to become a skin head.....through choice 😲 around the end of October 2021.
I'm doing this to raise money for Myeloma UK and support my mum by going bald together when she start her intensive treatment around that time. If you want to know more about how we got here I've posted some more details below, if not, thanks for reading and donating... every penny much much appreciated.
On 26th April 2021 my amazing mum was diagnosed with myeloma, after investigations into an unexplained fractures in her spine. My mum is 56.
Myeloma is a type of blood cancer occurring in the bone marrow, currently it is incurable. At any time there are around 24000 people in the UK living with myeloma.
Advances in medicine now mean that people with myeloma are able to be treated for a number of years often living relatively normal lives for much of this but it is believed that in the future, a cure can be found.
I live in hope for this cure or at least even better treatments to allow my mum to live her life to the fullest for as long as possible. My mum is a brilliant human being, she's spent most of her life as a single mum bringing up 4 kids and being a carer to my younger sister Ashley (24) who needs all day supervision and additional support. She has been an amazing nana to my girls and they adore her. She doesn't complain, she doesn't wallow in self pity, she just carries on with grit and determination every single day.
Last year my mum finally got engaged and moved in with her partner of 17 years, they plan to get married in the near future and deserve so many happy years together.
In October or November 2021, my mum will be getting a stem cell transplant to give her the best chance of a longer remission. This is the equivalent of a major operation and she will be getting very strong chemo at the same time so will lose all of her hair as well as likely to be very sick for a number of weeks. Her immune system will be non existent and she will be prone to every infection.
I know my mum feels quite emotional about losing her hair on top of everything else that's going on so just before her treatment she is going to have her hair cut short, at that same time I am going to get my hair shaved off in support of this. We can be baldies together. This is a very big thing for me (and my husband who is gutted that I will be losing my long locks) so I hope to raise a good sum of money.
I want to take this opportunity to try raise as much money as I can for this small charity, they receive no government funding and rely solely on donations so whatever you can spare will be greatly appreciated.
