I became aware of cleft conditions and the work of Operation Smile through my support of the Pussycat Dolls member Carmit Bachar who was born with a cleft lip and palate. Read more about Carmit’s story here: https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/health/758041/Pussycat-Doll-Carmit-Bachar-cleft-palate-health
Having endured the struggles that she has and coming out the other side Carmit became an ambassador for Operation Smile with the aim of bringing more smiles into the world and as someone who puts a smile not only on my face but many others on a daily basis in honour of her birthday on 4th September 2020 I wanted to try and fundraise what I could in her name for a charity that she supports.
Operation Smile is an international medical charity whose global network of thousands of credentialed medical volunteers from more than 80 countries is dedicated to helping improve the health and lives of children from more than 60 countries.
Operation Smile UK who I am fundraising for is the U.K. office of this charity that since March 2002 has raised tens of millions of pounds for programmes run and supported by Operation Smile as a whole whilst sending countless volunteers on medical programmes around the world.
With all the negativity in the world a smile can go a long way and I want to help put more smiles out there. Did you know that something as little as £9 could provide pain medications for a child? Or that £15 could pay for antibiotics for 10 children with £25 providing medical supplies for a surgery or £85 equipping a pre-op paediatric centre? No, neither did I.
It is easy to take for granted the surgical care we have available. But for too many people safe surgery is not an option. Children born with cleft lip and palate in the developing world cannot access the surgery they desperately need for a healthy, happy future. Instead they face difficulty breathing, eating and speaking and are left to live in social isolation due to the stigma surrounding their condition and this is where Operation Smile comes in. It costs as little as £150 and takes just 45 minutes to provide this life-changing surgery, a small amount of money and time for a lifetime of renewed confidence and hope.
With this I hope that you will join me in raising money for such a worthy cause. This page will be active at a minimum until 4th September 2020.
