The Charity :
Continued social distancing is leaving a lot of people feeling isolated and alone. LGBTQ+ folk in particular are vulnerable to anxiety and depression, so in times like a global pandemic the situation is becoming overwhelming for many.
This is why Opening Doors London have launched their telefriending service, where LGBTQ+ folk aged over 50 who are in need of a pal receive a weekly call from a friendly voice. Telefrienders have found they are needed for more than just a chat. For many LGBTQ+ folk stuck at home, there are other worries. Some are going hungry, some are running out of medication and others have stopped receiving support from their carers. Telefrienders are able to locate those who need help and make sure they know how to find the help they need.
Opening Doors London are experiencing a huge increase in demand from people in need from all over the UK, even receiving calls from as far as Europe and the US. They are calling for donations to expand their trained team so that they do not leave anyone alone and helpless during these troubled times.
Community has always been important for LGBTQ+ folk, and now it is crucial.
Thank you for your support!
Keep safe and well and look after yourselves, you beautiful things.
