Story
When I ran the London Marathon last year I was fairly sure it was a tick in the box, something crossed of the bucket list, never to be done again. But here I am kicking off some more fundraising and remembering just how hard (and cold!) the training really is.
On April 28th 2019 I will be running the Marathon for ‘ABF - The Soldiers Charity.’ You can never under estimate the impact marathon training has on the wider family, on the kids who ask ‘are you going running AGAIN Mummy?’ and on poor hubby holding the fort at weekends when I go for a long one. So this year it is a nod to him and the amazing community we live in. It is in memory of lost friends and comrades, a thank you for all the positive experiences our military life has given us and in recognition of all that our amazing forces do. It is an honour to be fundraising for such a fantastic cause and it certainly makes all the hard work worthwhile.
I think running has proved to be a form of therapy for me after a truly rubbish few years - it gives me the thinking and reflecting time that I so need. It is my only quiet time amongst the daily chaos, noisy children and broken nights and gives me some much needed space to try and come to terms with everything that has happened.
Losing both my Dad and then my Mum in such a short space of time has been really difficult to come to terms with and I continue to try and cling to the things that would make them proud. This will most certainly be the last time I do the marathon (or any form of running for that matter) so I plan to rise to the challenge as much as I can. And that includes the fundraising which is a huge part of my drive and motivation.
Thank you for any support you can give x
