In April this year I will be travelling from the UK to Central Asia in a bid to highlight the peril sturgeon species are facing. As the most endangered group of species on the planet, sturgeon populations have plummeted in the last century and having outlived the dinosaurs, time is now running out to save them.

The premise of the expedition is to visit some of the last rivers in Eurasia that still host sturgeon, to explain the causes of their demise but also to highlight all the amazing work that is undertaken to prevent them sliding into extinction. 

(un)Surprisingly this is the first ever long-distanced cycle to promote awareness for sturgeon conservation with all charitable money raised going towards Fauna and Flora International’s Caucasus sturgeon programme.

The trip has a loosely fixed route, which will see me travel approximately 11,000km, face extreme deserts and mountainous passes all to highlight the peril these iconic species are facing.

As someone who has spent their entire career protecting fish through more conventional methods, I am planning to embark on this expedition to highlight the extreme situation we as humanity find ourselves in. If we don’t act now we will lose species such as the sturgeon forever.

I’m trying to raise £11,000 for 11,000km. All donations made here go directly to Fauna and Flora International, with every penny raised making a huge difference to sturgeon and freshwater protection.
