Story
The two churches of Our Lady Help of Christians and St Aloysius in Folkestone and St Joseph's in Cheriton are major assets of our parish, and the local community. Both are now in need of some tender loving care, repair and decoration. It is important because our church buildings should direct our attention on God and reflect his beauty and reflect our devotion. Our Catholic churches house God. Our Lord gives us His body and blood in the Eucharist so we have God present among us in our Catholic Church. We have a duty to do our best to make sure our Church is beautiful because it is housing our Blessed Lord himself.
We are seeking to repair the guttering and the roofs at both churches which sadly are suffering from leaks. We want to repair the damaged masonry at St Joseph's and fix minor snags like doors sticking. At Our Lady Help of Christians we need to wash down the inside of the church and paint it. A job that was last done over 25 years ago! We need to clean the wood panelling and wax it. We desperately need new lighting to replace the ow obsolete lights, some of which no longer work. We are also awaiting the arrival of a new and much more user friendly disabled ramp that has been ordered for the North Door.
We have already put a new door and safety features to protect volunteers and customers alike at our Catholic Bookshop on Guildhall Street. In the last year we have spent tens of thousands renovating our Church Halls at both churches and we repaired all the kneelers at Our Lady.
We know that together through our prayers and efforts, we can raise the money needed to restore our churches. All donations will be used for that purpose only.
