Story

Ollie's story: A few years before I was born, my dad was diagnosed with a brain tumour and was given a year to live. My Mum (Caroline) and Dad (Michael) had a very bright future ahead of them. My Dad had just opened his own veterinary business and my Mum landed her dream job as a primary school teacher.

Wanting to make the most of life and not letting anything get in their way, they decided to start a family. Less than a year later, my older brother Monty was born. My parents were overjoyed with starting a family and decided that they wanted to have more children and along came the triplets, Freddie, Gus and me!

My Mum never left us in the dark and we grew up knowing that my dad would not be with us forever. When I was 8, my Dad sadly passed away from his brain tumour, 13 years after diagnosis. My Mum was a rock for us boys. She made sure we did not miss any opportunities and gave us a great outlook in life.

Throughout my teenage years my Mum and I grew very close. We started to become friends and had such a laugh together. When I was 17, my Mum was also then diagnosed with a brain tumour, 5 weeks later she passed away. I had never felt so low in my life.

We are raising money for the Brain Tumour Charity in memory of my Mum and Dad. They were such inspirational people. My Dad was such a caring and positive man who always put others first. My Mum was a fun and incredible woman who loved her children. To raise money we are trekking the Sahara desert. One of the main motivations for this trek is because this is one of the many treks my Dad completed and we want to follow in his footsteps.

In November 2022, Kiera and I will be doing a five day trek of 100km passing through Morocco’s forbidding landscape punctuated by peaks, gorges, dunes and oases. It will be challenging but we're looking forward to it and to raising lots of money. The organisers state: 'This trek is challenging, unforgiving, and life-changing.'
