Fundraising for Bone Cancer Research Trust
Hello, my name is Oliver and I will be completing the London marathon on the 23rd of April 2023. As a few people may know I've always wanted to complete the marathon before I reached 20 and have had a goal to complete it. Luckily, I've been given the opportunity to run in the London Marathon this year. I will be trying to raise as much money as I can for Bone cancer research trust as they are the a charity close to my family and I. I will be running the marathon in memory of two family members Adam Dealey and Martin Sills
My family are a very tight and loving family, who care for everyone and would do anything for anyone.
The first family member is my uncle, Martin Sills. Martin sadly passed away 3 years ago from Neuroendocrine tumours and carcinoid syndrome, he was a big part of our family and a great inspiration to me. Now its my turn to help others. Martin helped our family raise money for Bone chancer Research trust, it was his younger cousin Adams charity.
Martin Donated Bone Marrow to two people in need and gave over 100 pints of blood. He volunteered for Kings Langley fire service and served as a Police Officer. He was loved by many people and I'm sure everyone who knew him would agree.
The second family member is Adam Dealey who passed away at the age of 10 in the summer of 1994. Adam was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma; this is a rare type of cancer that affects bones or the tissue which surrounds the bones. It mainly affects young people and children but can also be seen and found within adults. It is commonly found in males but can also be found within females.
Some background on Adam;
Adam first started to complain that he was experiencing discomfort within his back and ribs, where he was referred to a specialist by the doctors. Where he was later diagnosed in September 1993. Adam battled through treatment for a ten-month period whilst going through 8 intensive chemotherapy courses. Unfortunately, whilst battling through all of this he developed 2 tumours within his spinal canal, which meant that he lost the use of his legs! It was at this point in which that our family was informed that Adam couldn't receive any more treatment. Which was a big loss to our family, especially his parents. Adam was a credit to himself, his family, and everyone who knew him. He was sadly missed and still is to this day.
This is just one type of bone cancer, there are several more, which are affecting people and families on a daily basis. Hopefully by creating this fund-raising page i will not only raise money for the charity to extend research and helping people and families, but as well raise awareness to people and show them what it means.
Please Help people like Adam and raise awareness to everyone. any donations are accepted and will mean lots to both me and the charity. please spread the word and share to others. Below is a bit more about Bone Cancer Trust Research.
The Bone Cancer Research Trust is dedicated to saving lives & improving outcomes for people affected by primary bone cancer. Despite being small, they fund more research projects exploring primary bone cancer than any other organisation. Other large UK cancer research charities do not prioritise bone cancer patients, in 2019 just 0.028% of their research spend went to bone cancer – not even close to 1%! Last year alone, Bone Cancer Research Trust committed an incredible £807,824 to pioneering bone cancer research - to save lives!
