Story
Hi everyone,
I am running the London Marathon in October in honour of Mia and I would love your support!
The money raised will go to The Stroke Association, who help stroke survivors and their families re-build their lives.
For those who don't know Mia, she was my incredible best friend. We met when I was just a few days old, growing up next door to each other, we became like family. Anyone that knew Mia would agree she was funny, beautiful, kind and generous.
At 21 years old, Mia suffered a devastating stroke which left her fighting for her life. She was paralysed from the neck down, due to an unimaginable condition called locked-in syndrome caused by the stroke. Mia was told her life would never be the same again and she had to learn how to communicate using her eyes with a spell chart and a special computer.
Mia never gave up, her strength and positivity led her to achieve incredible things. To name a few; Mia camped in Calais with refugees, took school and sports equipment to children in Gambia, helped the homeless, raised money for stroke wards, bungee jumped, skydived, climbed a Mountain and wrote a book!
Her smile and positivity was infectious and her achievements were so inspiring that she won Merseyside Woman of the Year in 2019. Sadly two days before this was announced, aged 30, Mia tragically and unexpectedly passed away.
Mia leaves behind a legacy which has inspired me to challenge and push myself to raise money for a great cause.
I hope I make her proud because as she knows, I really hate running!
This is for you Mimi x
