Story

What a time this has become for everyone, we are living in an uncertain, crazy world. Having to learn and educate ourselves in this new lifestyle which is hopefully not forever. Our NHS have been working so incredibly hard, fighting to keep many of our loved ones here. Along with our public service, supermarket, healthcare and all of our key workers. Even the people staying at home, we are all doing our bit at helping us get through it all!

I want to give something back! I’ve been thinking all of last year for who/what charity I want to raise money for - as there are so many amazing charity’s out there that provide help to so many of us. So I’ve decided I needed to do this for a place that’s personal for me and my family, a hospital we’ve seen first hand what they do every day, but also a charity that several people can relate too!

Without South-mead hospital I would dread to think where we would be today. 4 years ago on the 27th January 2017, my sister went through an operation to remove a uni centric castleman's tumour, (A rare hideous beast that was close to a sarcoma tumour, this was a cyst that had turned evil.)We named him Norman! If you followed Harriet's story back then and ongoing you'll know the story.

Southmead, as a whole have been remarkable in helping Harriet through her rare diseases. The immunology department in particular have been a major importance to her trying to find a solution to our unanswered questions back when. Although Harriet has been left with a life limiting lung condition, we still have her with us and for that we are grateful. These legends saved my sisters life and keep saving peoples lives everyday! So let's give them the help they need and deserve, this can help with research, as we now know, research is a vital ingredient in finding information that can help us in the future and to help determine a diagnosis quicker.

With all of this in mind,  Everyone that knows me knows my hair is definitely part of my personality, I look different every time people see me! I love experimenting with different colours and lengths, so unfortunately my hair is not in a good enough condition to donate so, I guess it’s time for me to start fresh but also, instead of donating my hair, I can attempt to raise some money! As Harriet lost her hair due to the trauma and treatment 3 years ago, I am inspired by the way she handled it all and if she can do it, so can I.

Obviously, my sister Harriet will be doing the dreaded shave, as it would only be right for her to have the satisfaction of zapping it all off!👩🏼‍🦲😂

Let’s all make a difference this new year and start by doing something good to bring the mood up, even if you just have a few coins spare, or even a share, it all adds up and makes a difference!

Look out on social media, I'm in two minds whether I should do a Facebook live or record and post, so comment what you would prefer to see. I will be BRAVING THE SHAVE on the 27th January 8pm, the anniversary of Harriet's operation.

❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

Thank you for taking the time to read this, if you would like more information on what Harriet's conditions are called; She had Unicentic Cattleman's disease secondary to paraneoplastic pemphigus. She mainly suffers now with Bronchiolitis Obliterans. The Immunology department in southmead have been one of the biggest lifesavers to help Harriet, in particular Dr Sarah Johnston has been the best consultant she could have asked for, always pushing to see the results and fight for what she believes in- Harriets recovery! So for that the money I raise will go it this department in particular.

HAPPY NEW YEAR AND HAPPY FUNDRAISING, SEE YOU ON THE 27TH.

Liv xoxo
