On Sunday 2nd October, I will be running this year’s London Marathon. I am taking on my first ever marathon in support of Macmillan Cancer Support - a wonderful charity that provides specialist healthcare and financial support to those affected by cancer.
I have sadly lost two grandparents to Cancer who, throughout their treatment, spoke to Macmillan for advise and reassurance. In each of their cases the suffering was eased by the calm and informed approach the Macmillan staff took.
Cancer can affect your life in so many ways. Macmillan Cancer Support do whatever it takes to give people the support they need by providing physical, financial and emotional support. The charity continues to raise money to provide vital cancer services, as well as research and campaigning to achieve better cancer care. As the number of people being diagnosed with Cancer continues to rise, Macmillan need support now more than ever.
I have always wanted to participate in the London Marathon, and feel that this is the right time to do it. Growing up, I was always a keen runner. My biggest supporters were my grandparents, who would drive across the country to cheer me across the finish line. In January, my grandmother sadly passed away. This year’s London Marathon will be taking place on Sunday 2nd October which by coincidence would have been Grandma’s 89th Birthday. Running 26.1 miles, with numerous family members supporting, feels like the perfect way to celebrate her birthday!
Any donation you are able to give is greatly appreciated and will go towards the continued support Macmillan provide to so many people.
Thank you and I hope to see some of you around the route!
