Story

We are joining MNDA’s Mission 5000

On the 22nd December 2018, our lovely kind and caring Dad Jeff was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). In a second, the floor was ripped out from beneath our feet and everything changed.

Motor Neurone Disease is a terminal illness and has no cure. It attacks the nerves that control movement so that muscles no longer work. It can leave people trapped in their bodies unable to move, talk, swallow and eventually breathe.

Once an active person who loved to kayak, cycle, play tennis (and much more), now our Dad struggles with everyday tasks. It’s heart breaking to watch his deterioration and see this debilitating disease take away everything he loved to do in life.

In the early stages, it began with these losses followed by things like Dad having to drink through a straw and use a bigger fork because he couldn’t lift his arms properly. Now, our dad needs a lot of care and is mainly bound to a wheelchair. On top of this are additional stresses such as adapting our home and paying for care and equipment.

Every day is difficult, but we are incredibly proud of our parents’ strength, positivity and humour in tackling this unfair and cruel disease.

Now it’s our turn to up the ante! We are joining #TeamMND’s Mission to cover 5,000 miles - that's a mile for every person living with MND in the UK today.

As a team (team Muse!) we are aiming to cover 500 of those miles over a 5-week period by running, walking, tennising, swimming (and perhaps more!) as much as possible by the 18th October.

We are raising money to support research into treatment and to fund the much-needed care and equipment for daily life. Like many charities this year, MND have lost a huge amount of revenue (an expected £2 million) due to the cancellation of sporting events. Our fight against MND can't be delayed. People affected by the disease need our support now.

This is for every person affected by MND in the UK and it is for our amazing Dad.

Thank you for vising our page and for supporting our cause.
