On April 10th 2014 we faced into the hardest day of our lives as our brother Mike lost his very short battle with cancer. Those of you who knew Mike, will remember him as being a very simple fuss free guy. He hated drama and never complained. Mike took the news of his diagnosis and prognosis as he did with anything else - a shrug of the shoulder, shit happens...... He didn't want to cause any upset, nor did he want to see anyone upset so he faced his illness, tests and any treatment with immense bravery that has left us all extremely proud of him. Mike was a runner himself and had run his first half marathon in Dingle only 4 months before he showed any symptoms, and had spoken of running the Great Limerick Run had he been well enough. Every day without Mike is a tough one, but every year we fully intend on remembering him this way through the Great Limerick Run, whilst raising much needed funds for the fabulous Hospice where he was so well cared for in his final days. With thanks to Mikes good friends, our fundraising for Milford Hospice first began within days of Mikes passing and a total of €10,315.90 was raised that year in 2014. As his 4th Anniversary approaches we head into our 5th year of fundraising and so far we are up to €19,079.40 including €1,120 raised by Christina's Skydive. Milford Hospice recently opened their new building with 34 extra beds (all single rooms for more privacy) with additional overnight accommodation for families who need to stay. With the addition of this new building, it means that they need help via fundraising more than ever to keep up with extra costs, so please give what you can, no matter how small you think it may be.
Many thanks to ALL our supporters through the years. You know who you are and you've been amazing!!!
