My dearest mum was diagnosed with terminal ALK+ lung cancer which has spread to her liver and spine. Her cancer is so rare that the world expert only has 20 patients across the globe. It’s not caused by smoking or drinking it is a freak cancer that simply mutates cells from nowhere regardless of lifestyle. Thankfully Mums incredible consultant Dr Khan at GWH found a special protein in her blood which has allowed her to do Target Therapy. Each one she takes works until the cancer ‘gets wize’ to the meds and then we have to find a slightly different Target Therapy to be pushed through for licensing by the authorities. It’s a rollercoaster of nightmares, chasing our tails and hope.

Amazingly Mum is walking with me for 6 miles at the Stomp event arranged by Penny Brohn taking place on the 12th October 2019 starting in Bristol and finishing near Pill. As you can imagine breathing and walking isn’t easy for anyone who has any cancer let alone lung cancer so this will be an epic journey of all proportions for everyone involved emotionally and physically.
