Beloved partner of Olivia, sister of Bob, daughter of Jean and much loved by family, friends and former colleagues. 

Caroline died suddenly and completely unexpectedly on 13 December 2012. She felt ill that morning and when I got home from work I found her dead. She died of acute heart failure due to viral myocarditis.

She was a wonderful woman with acute powers of observation and an occasionally acerbic turn of phrase. She was deeply kind, as her friends and students discovered when troubles beset them. Her former students tell me that she was an inspirational teacher. She loved wine, gardening and music and was very knowledgeable about all three. We travelled far and wide in her quest to learn more about wine. She was truly gleeful the previous evening, finalising the booking of our flights for a trip to Australia in 2013. It was to have included our first visit to the Adelaide area vineyards.
