Story
The care that our daughter has been receiving on Buscot ward from the moment she came kicking and screaming into this world stops me in my tracks every time I’m on the ward. My partner was rushed to hospital in an ambulance and on arrival was told she had severe preeclampsia and the way the cure it is to deliver the baby. The feeling of being told you will be having a premature baby with in the next couple of hours along with the thoughts that go through your mind is something no words can describe. My partner managed to keep baby in the womb for 6 days up until the point the doctors couldn’t let it go no further. Our baby was delivered safely and taken to Buscot ward. I went up ASAP as mum wasn’t able (It took mum three days before she was able to get in a wheel chair for me to take her to meet our baby girl). The first time you enter the ward and see your baby in an incubator with so many wires, tubes and machines round her is something that will live with me for ever. It’s from this point I started to see and understand the amazing work that is done on Buscot. We will never be able to express the thanks and gratitude we have for the staff and care our baby and us have received. If I can give something back to help the next family or benefit Buscot it is the least I can do. We will be forever great full to Buscot.
Babies in Buscot Support (BIBS) raise funds to give sick and premature newborns at the RBH the best possible start in life. Our charity is run by parents that have had a baby spend time on Buscot Ward. We have been there too. That is why we care so deeply, and want to make the experience for all babies admitted to Buscot Ward and their families the best it can possibly be. Our work focuses in four main areas of activity, which we call keeping Buscot families "SAFE":Support providing families with independent emotional support while their baby is on Buscot, and beyond.Awareness - we help inform parents about what to expect from a stay on Buscot by providing written information and we raise awareness of issues related to prematurity or sickness at birth.Facilities - we refurbish facilities and accommodation on the ward.Equipment - We fund state of the art equipment for the ward including incubators, cardiac monitors, ventilators, phototherapy units and much more.
