Story
Hi Everyone, Thanks for taking the time to look at my story, please take a look below and please do feel encouraged to get involved!
This will be the last chance I get to raise money for Alzheimer's whilst my Grandmother is alive so I'll be attempting to run from The Shard in London to Etheldred Care Home in Histon (Cambridge) all in one go, An Ultra-Marathon!
This run will be around 100km, which is 62 Miles approximately. This challenge will support/help spread awareness and raise money for Alzheimer's’, patients in particular those who were vulnerable and have been affected by Covid-19, there has been a significant decrease in financial support for Alzheimer's due to Covid-19.
This will be my longest run by more than 2X (Wouldn’t want an easy challenge now!) The run will take place on the 17th October and I will be having a biker next to me to support and to fuel me along the way, I am estimating it will take around 14-15 hours but who knows!
I’ve decided to bring this challenge forward as unfortunately after 3-4 years with Dementia my Grandmother has now been diagnosed with Cancer and we’re not sure on how long she’ll be with us. She will have no idea what the challenge is but I would like to finish off the run at the Care Home she lives in and give her a big hug to finish!
So far there's around 5 people biking the distance with me to help raise some funds for this cause, I'd love for you to get involved and be part of the challenge too, please let me know and I'll add you to the list!
If you’d like to sponsor please see details above, thanks very much!
Thanks, Oliver
Anyone unaware of what Dimentia or Alzheimer's is then I've added a few points here with a link to more info. I've also added a documentary link from Ross Kemp on the affects on Dementia.
Dementia is the name for a set of symptoms that includes memory loss and difficulties with thinking, problem-solving or language. Dementia develops when the brain is damaged by diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer’s disease is a physical disease that affects the brain. It is named after Alois Alzheimer, the doctor who first described it.
The brain is made up of billions of nerve cells that connect to each other. In Alzheimer’s disease, connections between these cells are lost. This is because proteins build up and form abnormal structures called ‘plaques’ and ‘tangles’. Eventually nerve cells die and brain tissue is lost.
