Story
In July 2019, together with my mum Natalie and 45 others, we cycled Paris to London, in memory of my mate Elias Taylor. He was one of my best friends from primary school and he lost his life at age 22 after a 5 year battle with leukaemia. His bravery, incredible sense of humour and hilarious impressions will never be forgotten. Eli was a legend and I miss him.
Your generosity in 2019 raised in total £185,000 and enabled the Haematology Cancer Care unit at UCLH to fund a 3 year research project in Elias’s name. This is now fully underway and its aim is specifically how the CAR-T treatment that had given so much hope for Elias, can be improved so that the benefits are realised by future patients.
In July 2022, we’re going again, cycling the roads of France but this time, Paris to Poitiers, over 300km in 3 days through the Loire Valley. I had vowed never to wear lycra or use chaffing cream again, but it seems that's about to change.
However, this time, my whole family are joining me. My brother Alex, sister Charlotte, mum Natalie, dad David, and also my girlfriend India.
We will be raising together as "Team Jacobs" with 35 more of Elias’s family and friends.
I’ve learnt the hard way that I really do need to get in a few long rides before the event and be more prepared for the grinding assault on my ass. But I wouldn’t miss this opportunity for the world and know Elias will be laughing at me again at my pain in the seat.
This time and with your help we now want to take this grand total to over £250,000. Please help us achieve this and give generously so that research can continue until leukaemia becomes a thing of the past.
