Story
Over a year on, and with many more runs under my belt, I am back for another challenge.
On 29th January 2022, I will be attempting an Everesting, which entails repeatedly running up and down a hill enough times to cover the equivalent elevation gain of climbing Everest (8848 metres).
The hill that I have decided to use for this challenge is Cronk ny Arrey Laa, coming up the side through Eary Cushlin. This stretch of climbing is 1.17 miles long at an average gradient of 20.5%.
To achieve the 8848 metres of elevation gain, I will have to complete the 1.17 mile climb 22 times. This means that I will have to run just under a marathon of uphill (25.7 miles), as well as having to run back down, making over 51 miles total.
I am also extremely lucky and grateful to have the support of the folks over at Island Escapes, who are going to be sponsoring the challenge and helping me throughout!
This will be as much a mental challenge as it will be a physical one; in light of this, I am once again choosing to support Isle Listen.
Isle Listen is a charitable initiative that provides support and training in schools, the workplace and community, helping people to recognise that mental health is just as important as physical health.
Their work is focused on education, early intervention, and prevention strategies to avoid the unnecessary escalation of mental health problems and help to alleviate pressure on the statutory services.
The charities aim is for everybody in the Isle of Man to feel emotionally empowered and effectively supported with their mental health.
