Story
In January 2021, my wife Jackie was diagnosed with a rare appendix cancer called PMP. PMP affects 1-2 people in a million, treatment is an 8-14 hour surgery known in the medical community as MOAS, ‘the Mother of All Surgeries,’ and being so specialist is performed at only 2 hospitals in the UK. Jax had an 8.5 hour surgery at The Christie in Manchester involving removal of 7 (!) organs.
With her incredible superhuman powers of recovery, we celebrated Xmas in 2021 cancer-free and 90% of the way back to full health. I couldn’t be prouder of her and have no way of repaying the awe-inspiring team at The Christie. Obviously, there are many PMP patients that aren’t as lucky as Jax.
So, what’s the plan?
I took delivery of my first road bike in September 2021 so I wouldn’t call myself ‘fit’.. But I’m now planning a fundraising challenge:
- Cycling from Leeds to Copenhagen
- 600 miles
- 6 days
- Roughly 8 hours+ per day on the bike, day after day
- Solo ride and completely unsupported.
- 9th-14 April.
I thought of a bake-sale but didn’t think that would get the publicity.
The Christie have set up a fund for all donations to go directly towards the clinical research to treat and cure PMP. I’m trying to raise as much money as possible and I’m appealing to you to sponsor me.
