Story
Hi!
This year I am aiming to take part in the London Marathon on Sunday April 23rd.
I was lucky enough to gain a place in the 2018 ballot but after two unsuccessful attempts (one due to injury and one due to Covid postponement) I am back to give it another go in 2023.
With training on track and hopefully no pandemics to navigate, I am looking to raise a bit of money and awareness for the lovely team at Webb House; a residential care home run by charity FitzRoy on the Sussex Coast caring for those with special needs and disabilities.
My Auntie Philippa was born with a very rare neurodevelopment disorder called Rett Syndrome. There's no cure for the condition, so treatment focuses on managing the symptoms. This requires around the clock care and assistance with feeding, cleaning and mobility. These needs require highly qualified professionals alongside a very particular skill set of care, compassion and patience, which she has been fortunate enough to receive at Webb House now for the past two years.
Philippa has been looked after in some great facilities throughout her life but like many charities, they are at the mercy of fluctuating funding and demand constraints, often operating at capacity. Despite these odds, Webb House is an amazing home for its residents. After a recent visit for my Aunt’s 60th birthday, I was blown away by how great the healthcare team are and how welcoming the home felt. Most importantly the other residents seemed so content, friendly and sociable. This kind of warm and homely atmosphere is a huge credit to the amazing staff. And is exactly how it should be. The residents there all deserve a great quality of life, access to enriching experiences and live a life of choice.
So, for my participation in this year’s London Marathon, I would appreciate any donations which will go towards the wonderful folks at Webb House; funding for future amenities, improving outside areas and subsidies towards equipment and experiences for the residents.
Thank you for your support!
