Story
Swimming the channel the easy way to provide a tangible ‘thank you’ for the care received by my (no longer so little…) little brother.
It’s started: 2,500m before 07:30. Out of catapult range from Dover!
Adductor brevis, a muscle I’d forgotten I had, loudly reminding me of it’s presence. 5,000m done. ‘Only’ 29,000 left!… .
If I had been in the channel, guessing I would have been in the boat by now! A further 2,575m added this weekend. Hampered by a thigh strain. 26,221 metres to go.
Two hours of breaststroke before 8 a.m., sounds like it should have been more fun than it was! Though minimal noise from thigh strain. Another 3,250 metres added. 22, 971 to go.
End of Week 2: 7.74 miles done. 13.26 miles to go. Bit of a break from early morning swims for holiday, then back ‘in the channel’. Thanks for your support.
Back in the water. 11.1 miles left.
Difficult week to fit in swimming, but 2,550m before 07:30. Over the half way mark: 11.5 miles done (in three weeks) 9.5 to go.
Another 2,650m this morning. 7.85 miles to go.
1,825m added. 6.7 miles to go.
First outdoor swim. 1,775m/1.1 miles. Still shivering thirty mins after; exhilarating though! 5.6 miles to go.
Another 1.1 outdoor miles added. 4.5 miles to go.
3,375m today. Just a bit less than 2.5 miles to go.
Another 2,000m added. 19.1 miles/32, 026 metres completed. 1.1 miles/1,770 metres to go.
Finally completed the last swim. It’s all done. 33,800 metres, 1,352 lengths, 21 miles. Took 11 weeks but there were gaps. Helped to hold in mind bigger struggles and how important it is to keep going, whenever I tired. Thank you for supporting MacMillan and thus encouraging me to do this.
