Story
COURAGE BOXING is a LGBT white-collar boxing event held to help raise funds for AKT (The Albert Kennedy Trust).
The Charity
AKT are the national LGBTQ+ youth homelessness charity. They support the community by providing Safe homes, mentoring, training, advocacy and support to young people who are homeless or living in a hostile environment after coming out to those around them, with the aim of creating better futures for lgbtq+ young people. No young person should have to choose between a safe home and being who they are.
Pride Boxing
Pride Boxing has run 3 very successful annual events in association with Pride in London. They have in fact been so successful with so many people wanting to get involved that we are now bringing you our 2nd Courage Boxing for even more LGBT+ White Collar boxing action.
The feedback from 2019’s Pride boxing and our first Courage event has been overwhelming. Courage boxing aims to maintain the safe and comfortable space for all members of the LGBT+ community to take part in the challenging and enjoyable sport of Boxing.
This is a Safe Space for taking part in LGBT+ Sport.
Lots of young people come out as LGBTQ+ to their families and are embraced and supported. But that’s not always the case. Coming out, or being outed as LGBTQ+ can lead to young people being made homeless. This is the reality for 77% of the young people akt supports. Sometimes families are unaccepting and abusive. The locks changed. Possessions destroyed. akt exists to support these young people and can offer safety and hope in an open and accepting environment. We help with housing and also to help them celebrate their identity.
