Story

In July I will be walking the 3 Peaks in 24hours with some crazy people from my old work. That means climbing up Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon; 23 miles in 3 stages with total ascent of 3064meters.

This is not a task for the light hearted and only the brave so I would like to raise money for the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) after my beautiful Auntie Wendie's passing.

In her final week NWAS put up many reports over social media that they were receiving lots of calls, higher numbers than usual of seriously ill people needing their help. Due to this they took over 25 minutes to reach her despite sending multiple ambulances.

For someone who has collapsed with a heart attack anytime immediately after is critical and life changing as the body’s vital organs will stop getting oxygen and shut down.

The people who work for NWAS for the NHS do an amazing job & have such an important role being the first contact to saving someones life, they work under extreme pressures and are human just like us! Being part of the NHS they obviously need all the financial support they can get.

Auntie Wendie was all about raising awareness and talked about the importance for calling 999 vs 111 so hopefully if we can raise just a little bit of money, we will all be more aware of where our local defibrillators are or help communities that currently don't have access to one so anyone who may ever be in a similar situation could try every option possible until the paramedics arrive.

This funding would go to the North West Ambulance Service Charity for vital lifesaving defibrillators along with other initiatives such as school education programmes, additional equipment and clinical training aids.

Each defibrillator funded and installed increases the chances of survival for an out of hospital cardiac arrest from just 5% to over 75%, if used with effective CPR within the first four minutes of an arrest.

A defibrillator cost approximately £1200

Any contributions would be greatly appreciated.
