Story
In March 2020, after one of his regular eye injections, my Dad lost his sight. He went from being able to read, to work, to get about, to not. All taken away in an instant.
Since that time Newcastle Vision Support have supported both him and my Mum as they adjust to this new way of life. The work this charity has done for my Dad has restored his independence, enabling him to get out by himself, and connecting him with a new community that provides further support. All this for free! It is no overstatement to say this charity, Newcastle Vision Support, has restored his life.
For this reason I am undertaking to run a solo, non-supported ultramarathon. I will run 55km around my local area, on September 17th. I'm asking you to sponsor me so that Newcastle Vision Support can continue their wonderful work, helping those who are visually impaired.
About Newcastle Vision Support
Newcastle Vision Support (http://newcastlevisionsupport.org.uk/), previously Newcastle Society For Blind People, was founded in 1867. Our ethos is “to help visually impaired people to become and to remain independent through information and learning activities, keeping in touch with people services, social groups and empowerment work.”
We are a completely independent local society proudly serving over 1,000 visually impaired people in Newcastle.
Our aims include:
- Providing support to enable people to remain or stay independent.
- Ensure visually impaired people feel part of and involved in an inclusive and understanding community.
- Empower people to know and understand their rights and to take part in community life in Newcastle.
- To ensure all our activities are led by the needs of visually impaired people.
To achieve this we offer practical and emotional support through learning and social activities.
