Story
Hello. Thank you for visiting our Just Giving page, please have a read of our story below:In August 2023, we noticed our daughter, Nuala who was 9 months old had a red, blood shot eye. In time, her eye began to change shape and after a bit of back and forth, she was referred for an urgent MRI scan. Doctor's could see it was a mass and in September 2023, at 10 month's old she was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer called an alveola soft tissue sarcoma. This type of cancer only affects 6 people in England per year, and is even rarer again in a baby under 1 and behind the eye. The news devastated us, particularly as we learnt this type of cancer was resistant to chemotherapy. However, the incredible team at Alder Hey did not leave a stone unturned in the fight to save her life. Nuala has had 3 surgeries to date, including major orbital exenteration surgery which mean's she has had her left eye and muscle behind it removed, along with the tumour. She has every chance of going on to lead a relatively normal life thanks to the swift action of all involved in her care at Alder Hey. However Nuala will need to be monitored closely for a number of years and has many more surgeries ahead of her. Alder Hey have been phenomenal with Nuala, and us and we really wanted something positive to come out of what has been a difficult time, so we have decided to raise money to support their charity in continuing to deliver world class care to families like ours. Together with a group of close family and friends, we are taking on the Coniston Challenge on July 6th 2024 in our bid to raise as much as we can. This is a triathlon with a twist consisting of 3 challenges:27km bike ride through the Lakes10km hike up Old Man Coniston 3km Kayak across Coniston Water Please help us raise funds for the Alder Hey Charity by donating to this page and by sharing with your own friends, family and social media pages. No donation is too small and every like and share is appreciated.
