Story
So, after too many wines last summer, Cookie announced that, having had Stage 3 Bowel cancer diagnosed and operated on in 2020/2021, he was tougher than this terrible disease and being on the road to making a full recovery, he’d have another go at running the London Marathon in sub 4 hours.
Unfortunately, a few of us were with him when he made this announcement! We couldn’t exactly let him do this alone so despite our creaking bodies and deluded minds we duly signed up and have committed to getting ourselves in ship shape condition to be able to drag ourselves around the 26.2 mile course. I last ran the Marathon nearly 20 years but have made an extra commitment to beat my previous best time of 3hrs 45mins.
Although research into, and awareness of the importance of gut health is on the rise it’s still an area that is not very well understood. Bowel cancer is also a very curable disease if diagnosed early, but because the symptoms often involve checking and discussing poo, and the medical investigations involve inserting fingers and / or cameras up bottoms it’s all a bit embarrassing. So by raising loads of cash and awareness we hope more people will talk more openly about the disease, it’s causes and symptoms and fewer and fewer people will die unnecessarily early from this disease. Thanks in advance for your support and we’ll see you on the other side 😉 🏃🏻♀️ 🏃 🏃🏻♂️ 🏃🏼♂️ 🏃🏽♂️
