Story
Tom Harvey, Matthew Cook, John Longford and Thomas Cumming have chosen to support and raise funds for Dragonfly Cancer Trust with their upcoming Sahara Desert Trek on November 2nd-7th 2023.
Dragonfly works with families, hospitals, and hospices across the UK supporting young people (aged 0-25) with terminal cancer.
Each year approximately 530 young people in the UK die from cancer and many more spend too much of their youth in hospital. For these young people and their families each moment matters. We want to support every single one of them.
The trek in the Moroccan Sahara will give us an insight into the vast and diverse landscape as well as the Berber way of life. We will spend two full days and two half days trekking across ancient dried-up river beds, sand dunes and vast sun-baked plains which can during the year reach up to 50c. On the nights we will be camping out in the desert which can reach freezing temperatures as low as -4c.
Over four days we will cover over 60 km over the vast Saharan landscape with the aid of Berbers (or Amazighen – ‘free people’) who are an ethnic group indigenous to North Africa whose culture can be traced back over 4,000 years.
We would greatly appreciate any donations, as Dragonfly Cancer Trust is a charity that lies extremely close to all of our hearts.
