Story
Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, my original challenge of trekking across 55 miles of Normandy beaches in May 2020 was cancelled, rescheduled, cancelled again, swapped to the Western Front, cancelled again and all for entirely understandable and sensible reasons that I agree with 100%.
However all is not lost though as I have decided to create my own trek route here in the UK.
Starting from Capel-le-Ferne I will set out along the coast path and head out towards the White Cliffs of Dover. The return loop will see me visit a World War I Command Tower; Fan Bay Shelter World War II Tunnels; Abbots Cliff Sound Mirror before finishing up at the Battle of Britain Memorial where I will lay a poppy in honour of all service men and women.
All told the route is a challenging 20 miles on intermediate terrain and will represent the longest trek I have ever attempted.
I see this as an amazing opportunity and a very poignant experience as well as a physical challenge - a truly memorable and meaningful way to raise funds to support the Armed Forces community.
The Royal British Legion offer lifelong support to those who need help, and I am keen to take on this challenge to do my part in supporting their work. In case you’re not familiar with the variety of work that The Royal British Legion undertake it’s surprisingly varied but most importantly they care for the whole family of those affected by the impact of service life. They help to ensure the highest quality of care for those suffering physical and mental issues and help families that need time to reconnect. Your donation will mean the legion can ensure the best quality rehabilitation and support for all. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity. I really appreciate your support and good wishes – it encourages me to train hard and try my hardest to help those that have sacrificed so much. Please be generous. Thank you.
