Story
I’m confronting my fear of heights by abseiling the Spinnaker Tower, Portsmouth, on Sunday 21 July 2013 to raise funds to send my two year old grandson Abe to America for Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) surgery. Born 10 weeks early, Abe has spastic diplegia, a form of cerebral palsy. This means he can’t walk unaided and without surgery faces an uncertain future.
Abe is a happy boisterous little boy who likes being in the middle of things and especially loves being on his feet, currently only possible with the use of a walking frame. He’s always excited by a trip to the playpark and its heartbreaking that he’s unable to access the play equipment without help. He’s unaware of his limitations and it’s hard to watch him struggle to join in with able bodied children of his age.
SDR Surgery will help to give Abe a brighter future by permanently reducing spasticity in his legs and improving his balance and co-ordination. Our hope is that one day he will walk independently. More information on Abe's condition and the campaign to help him can be found on www.abes-adventure.co.uk
Every grandparent wants the best for their grandchildren so please help me to achieve this for Abe.
