Story
Over the last 7 years the Hikers & Bikers have supported the Mary's meals school feeding programme at the John Bande Foundation School in Blantyre, Malawi, whereby the children are given a daily meal in a place of education. But we have recently discovered the school building has been destroyed during excavation work for a new motorway.
Classrooms for Malawi, a registered charity based in Motherwell have reported that the building has been left in a highly dangerous state with a 12 foot drop to the new motorway below. This school is community based with the teachers being paid by the parents so they have no means of rebuilding the school themselves and the P1 children are now being taught under a make shift structure covered with tarpaulin, which is also in a dangerous condition. You can see images of this below:
We have agreed to fundraise in collaboration with Classrooms for Malawi to support the building of a new a 3 block classroom at an estimated cost of £21,000.
We urge you to help us, to give these desperately poor primary school children a safe and happy educational environment and in turn this will enable us to continue the school feeding programme.
HOW WE PLAN TO DO IT:
Our aim is to build the school, ‘One Brick at a Time’, by selling virtual bricks to be placed on one of our virtual wall via our Just Giving site.
The bricks cost £5 each, which can be customised with your own message of up to 70 characters and you will also receive an emailed certificate for each brick. All you need to do is donate £5 per brick and place the message you wish to be on the brick in the notes, it will then be added to the virtual wall on our website within 7 days and certificate emalied to the email address you provide. PLEASE ENSURE YOU SHARE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS WITH US WHEN ASKED BY JUST GIVING
Each brick bought will be numbered and entitles you free entry to a prize draw where you can win A signed Celtic Top, a signed Rangers top or a bottle of Dewars 15 year old blended Scotch Malt Whisky. The more you buy the more chances you have of winning a prize and this will be drawn at a future date decided by the Hikers and Bikers Bus Conveniers. if you win the raffle you will be contacted via the email address you provide.
And remember, Christmas is just around the corner – why not donate a virtual brick on behalf of a loved one – and they can be proud to know that their gift will go towards providing a safe and happy education environment in the warm heart of Africa.
