Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On Thursday 9 February 2012 I will be trekking up Kilimanjaro, a dormant volcano in Tanzania and the highest mountain in Africa. It is 19, 341 feet (5, 895m) above sea level.
According to the organisers the trek is an “extreme challenge” for the following reasons:
· High altitude
· Wide range of weather and temperatures
· Demands excellent fitness and stamina
· Requires determination and total commitment
And apparently “the altitude, low temperature, and occasional high winds make this a difficult and dangerous trek “all trekkers will suffer considerable discomfort, typically shortage of breath, hypothermia and headaches.”
I have never taken part in a challenge like this before but I’m sure if I show the same courage and determination as the young patients and committed staff at Great Ormond Street Hospital that I will manage it.
For those that know me personally they will realise that my starting point is somewhat far from my finishing point. I anticipate that my journey to the bottom of Kilimanjaro will be harder than my journey to the top. As I now embark on 4 months of sacrifice and physical pain. I will chart my progress on this page for your amusement.
I was inspired to take on this challenge despite a heavy work load and family commitments after seeing how children, families and staff at GOSH cope with much bigger challenges. I feel that it is something small that I can do to give something back.
I have guaranteed to raise £3,950 for GOSH of which approximately 50% will be used to pay the costs of my flight and accommodation. I am passionate that this fundraising is about raising money for GOSH and not the cost of my personal challenge and so I have covered the costs through offline donations.
No amount is too small or too big! Words of encouragement are equally welcome.
Thanks again for your time.
