MHA is a charity that enables people to live later life well and it has care homes, retirement schemes and vibrant community groups throughout the country. Northwood Live at Home is one of MHA’s locally based
community groups serving an area where there are high levels of older people living alone. It is in North West London about 12 miles from Heathrow.

Northwood Live at Home is seeking funds to expand their reach into the community to serve more older people who need support to continue an active social life. The scheme offers an activity every weekday and
creates opportunities for people to eat together, socialise and enjoy a variety of recreational activities such as seated exercises, singing, art and craft sessions. We offer a befriending support service and have a team of over 80 volunteers who help at activities and visit older people. Transport is offered to those with mobility problems through our volunteer drivers.

Community fundraising is essential to continue the work to reduce social isolation and loneliness. We work with schools, colleges and
youth groups to forge links across the ages and to create lively social
opportunities which bring joy and purpose. Through our programme of supported activities, special events, trips and outings we promote friendships for people who otherwise would spend many hours home alone.

A quarterly newsletter is mailed to all members with details of what we are offering. We listen to what members want and design projects with them. Two new recent suggestions have been cooking for one and telephone befriending. All activities are subsidised thanks to community fundraising such as this Three Peaks challenge.
