With the ongoing conflict in Yemen already one of the poorest countries in the region over 20 million people don't know where their next meal will come from. A country crippled by conflict is sadly now on the brink of famine.

Story

Assalamu'Alaikum,

We've all come across the 2020 headlines stating that 'Yemen is on the brink of extinction', and for those who haven't, the harsh reality of the matter is that the people of Yemen are struggling to hang on to their lives in the BIGGEST humanitarian crisis in the world.

According to the United Nations, 80% of Yemen's total population of 24 million is in desperate need for humanitarian aid, of which more than 14 million are in acute need and a further 3 million left displaced from their homes since 2015. The collapse of public institutions amidst ongoing armed conflicts and the implications of COVID-19 in the country have resulted in the worsening of survival conditions, straining the poorest country in the Arab region.

During Ramadan, I started fundraising to provide medical aid towards the COVID-19 situation in Yemen as the overall death rates had increased in the country since April as a consequence of the infection. But the dire situation in the country proves a greater reason for the desperate need for humanitarian aid now more than ever as the deaths from COVID are expected to exceed all wartime fatalities. Women and children are at a greater disadvantage due to malnutrition affecting children's growth in the longterm, and pregnancy dangers from a lack of maternal aid. The UN estimates a total of $4 billion in funding for humanitarian aid towards Yemen.

Islamic relief will support the survivors living in Yemen with food, clean water and basic healthcare while they are struggling under the uncertain political climate and economic strain. I am requesting you to donate big or small as every donation will contribute towards the survival of Yemen.
