Story
As part of the The Nottingham University design/build studio 2022 I am raising money to support the construction of a new Crèche facility at Malahlela in rural South Africa. We are currently designing the Crèche in groups and the head teacher of Malahlela will be picking which best suits their requirements. In April 2022 we will be commencing the build in three phases when we fly out to South Africa.
Donations will go to fully support expansion and improvement of the
Crèche facility to ensure more children have access to early childhood education. The provision of adequate high quality childhood education facilities is not only important so that they can provide a solid foundation to the young children by being supported by the government.
It also means that the children can be on the path to a successful future by getting onto the path of education. It also means their primary care givers (predominantly their mothers) are able to enter into the workforce while their child or children are at the Crèche. So they can start to earn some more money for their family. Alongside the education of their children, they can also be bettering the quality of life for their family.
As a result of the Apartheid which ended only 26 years ago when Nelson Mandela became president, South Africa has one of the most unequal societies in the world. The Apartheid may be over but it's scars and damage are still visible in the dramatic gap of what some have and what the majority don't have. And as a result of the Covid - 19 Pandemic this has only been exacerbated more than it could have already been.
We are going to expanding the Crèche capacity from 6 children to 30. And each of those 30 children every year are then going to be able to start their life with their best foot forward receiving the education and achieving the future success that every child deserves. And every parent dreams of their child having.
All donations will be greatly received.
Thank you for your support and please feel free to share our fundraiser. It would be very much appreciated.
