Story
Dear all,
2023 will see me taking on the London Marathon in April!
I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to run the London Marathon in support of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), the charity saves lives at sea.
The RNLI is a charity close to my heart as I was rescued by them in October 2016 after I was involved in a serious sailing accident while taking part in a sailing race in the Solent. I will always be grateful to them for saving my life and this is my chance to give something back.
The RNLI is a volunteer 24/7 lifeboat service in the UK and Ireland with a goal to save lives at sea around the coast and inland waterways, including Thames. They’re separate from the coastguard and are independent of the government so they rely on volunteers, supporters and donations to keep them going. The lifeboat crews rescue an average of 23 people every day. The vast majority of RNLI staff are volunteers – people like you and me who devote their time and energy, and often put their own lives at risks, to help others. In 2021, the RNLI’s running costs (which include maintaining the RNLI lifeboat fleet, training lifeboat crew, running a lifeguard service and campaigning for water safety) reached £159.6 million – all of which was funded by RNLI’s generous supporters.
Getting to the starting line has been a long journey for me as this is my third time entering this race and any support you can give the RNLI will keep me going on the day!
