Story
Hi, my name is Nina and I'm really excited to participate in my first ever sponsored run to raise money for the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF).
I am so lucky to have access to clean water all the time and to live in a safe and comfortable home. I feel sad thinking that children in North-East Afghanistan and their families might not have water because it doesn’t rain enough. The money I raise will help them to have water, food, a comfortable home and be able to live safely, even in bad weather.
Thank you for sponsoring me in my first AKF run and helping the people of Badakshan have a safer future.
Love Nina xx
You can read more about this project here:
“Extreme weather exacerbated by climate change threatens the people of North-East Afghanistan. As climate change intensifies, scientists predict weather patterns will become more volatile leaving people exposed to heat waves, floods, droughts and reduced snow capping, which causes glacial lake outburst floods, result in the destruction of property, crop failure, erosion of vital farmland and loss of life.
AKF has partnered with the EU Commission to help 420,000 people
Working mainly with women and youth in affected areas, the project will help 60,000 families - around 420,000 people.
Your donations go a long way
For every £1 raised, the European Commission will donate £9 to the project. And 100% of all money raised goes directly to the project.
For example, a donation of £10 becomes £100 for the project. That's enough to provide year-round access to water for a family, or provide drought resistant crops to 100 households.
A donation of £20 becomes £200 for the project. That's enough to plant 1000 trees that will support new livelihood opportunities and prevent soil erosion, or help form and train a womens group to lead reforestation.
Your donations will help ensure the people of North-East Afghanistan have a safer future.”
