Bula! ( Welcome)
In the Fiji Islands, Think Pacific Foundation provides the funding, planning and logistical support to enable volunteer teams to achieve specific development goals in the poorest areas of Fiji as the core element of a well structured, challenging and adventurous expedition.
Think Pacific fund short term, medium term and long term government directives which are designed and monitored by local communities and the Fijian Ministry to provide long term social, economic and environmental benefits to local communities.
I will be running the Victoria Park Half Marathon on 7th April to raise money for my 1 month of volunteering in Fiji this summer where I will be taking part in the Youth Empowerment Programme.
Although Fiji is a beautiful country many people are unaware of the non-communicable diseases that account for 80 deaths in every 100. Additionally, Fiji has an incredibly young population, with 70% of people under the age of 40, and 50% below the age of 27. No structured PE curriculum and extracurricular activities and a lack of a holistic approach to healthcare & higher education role models.
Over the 4 weeks, I will be working with the local Fijian youth (18-35) on discussing and tackling solutions to achieve key aspects of Fiji's National Development Plan and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The 6 key areas I will be working on with Fijian youth will be physical activity and health, environment and climate, Leadership, Enterprise, Mental Health and Public Health which will aid in shaping the future leaders of Fiji.
I am aiming to raise £1950 which goes directly to the Think Pacific Foundation.
How your donations will help:
1. Sustainability. We support communities year-round and long-term, not just when our projects take place.
2. Locally Led. We place an emphasis on training local people and empowering communities
3. Widespread. By donating to a Think Pacific project you are enabling the charity to support tens of thousands of youth and families across all areas of Fiji, not just those who receive volunteering help.
No donation is too small!
Vinaka Vakalevu!!! (Thanks very much)
