On 25th April 2015, Matthew Carapiet tragically lost his life whilst trekking in Langtang, Nepal. He was one of many thousands who died that day when an earthquake devastated the country. Matthew - who was a talented architecture student from Maidstone - was backpacking across Asia and China as part of his gap year. His family have set up the Matt Carapiet Charitable Trust in his name, and are raising money to support projects in Nepal and in Cambodia where Matthew had given his time to volunteer during his travels. Money previously raised by the family helped fund the completion of a school building and other essential projects at SHCC School in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Last year’s Camino walk by Nimmi & Pammi raised over £1,000 and helped to pay the salaries for a nurse and health worker in the reconstructed Langtang Health Centre in Langtang Village. The family hope to continue this for as long as they can, depending on fundraising.
We are going to walk the Camino Frances - 125 km in 5 days - to Santiago de Compostela. The longest day is 30 km!! We feel very strongly about this cause and hope you will donate to what is a very worthwhile cause in memory of Matt. Nepal's people and Langtang Village are trying to rebuild their lives and 3 years on still need our help.
