Story
Hi I'm Niku. I studied medicine and graduated, MBChB, from the University of Edinburgh 2016. I am spending this year working as a clinical teaching and research fellow in ophthalmology (eyes) at the University Hospital Ayr, Scotland.
I will be running the New York Marathon to raise awareness and support for research into late-onset retinal degeneration (L-ORD). This inherited condition currently has no cure, is progressive and leads to blindness. Our global effort seeks to improve diagnosis, help patients and their families and find new ways to improve the outlook for this currently untreatable disease. Our logo illustrates the unusual fine translucent strands, visible against the red reflex of the eye, which are long zonules characteristic of L-ORD as seen with the slit lamp biomicroscope.
All the funds donated will be used for L-ORD education and research. Many thanks for helping!
