Story
Nikon UK's staff nominated charity for 2021.
The World Land Trust are an international conservation charity whose aim is to protect the world’s most biologically important and threatened habitats. Built on the simple premise of saving land = saving species, the World Land Trust has funded the protection of 2.2 million acres of land, and the planting of 2.3 million trees.
Ownership and heritage are a key aspect of their work; the World Land Trust facilitate the local people owning their land, working with them to build a strong foundation for their future.
But don’t just take our word for it …
“The money that is given to the World Land Trust, in my estimation, has more effect on the wild world than almost anything I can think of.” Sir David Attenborough
Nikon UK has chosen to support this noteworthy cause and throughout 2021 we will be raising funds for their buy an acre programme. Nikon’s goal is to help WLT save 100 acres of threatened habitat. Help us reach our target by donating whatever you can.
WLT’s Buy an Acre programme is currently supporting projects in Argentina and Brazil where land can be purchased for £100 an acre. Buy an Acre saves habitat for endangered species: giving them the room to roam and the ability to adapt to a warming climate.
Pioneering the Buy an Acre approach means WLT have had decades to see the difference it makes for wildlife. One of their latest projects is supporting their partner Fundacion Biodiversidad Argentina (FBA) to create a nature corridor in Argentina. It will allow FBA to create 13,000+ acres of reserves in an area where less than 5% forest remains. It will save the home of the Chacoan Peccary, an endangered boar-like mammal so elusive they were thought extinct until 1970.
