Story
It is November 2024 and I have challenged myself to do this 'Mighty Challenge'.
By the time that I get to do actually complete this marathon hike it will be nearly two years since my Dad's first diagnosis of cancer and what a two years it has been.....
Losing my mum on the day that my Dad started his treatment is one that I will never forget. However, he continued with his treatment and we got through the first hurdle!
12 months later and we receive a second diagnosis.... in fact it was 4 days ago! I am only hoping that he manages to survive to see me do this crazy challenge.
So... what led me to do this??
1. Macmillan have supported my family and millions of other people and they deserve all of the funding that they can get. The support that they give to families living with cancer is priceless and let's face it.... we all know someone close to us that is living with, has or has passed from this cruel disease.
2. I have always wanted to say that I have completed a marathon!! OK, this is a walking one but still an immense challenge for me!
3. I have always wanted to see the Giant's Causeway and do a coastal walk around Ireland - no excuses now!!
3. I had a festival booked on the same weekend which got postponed to the summer. The universe was telling me that this was meant to be :-)
4. It scares me to death and completely takes me out of my comfort zone. I will be travelling and completing it alone but it will be great healing for me. My motto is... 'FEEL THE FEAR AND DO IT ANYWAY!!'
In order to do this challenge my pledge was to raise £250 which can pay for Macmillan Nurse for one day. This could provide people living with cancer and their families essential medical, practical and emotional support.
I am wanting to double my pledge (smash it in true Nikki style) and raise £500!! I know that times are hard for everyone.... remember, every penny counts. I would appreciate whatever you can comfortably afford.
There are currently 3 million people living with cancer in the UK today. It's Macmillan's goal to be there for everyone from the moment of diagnosis, but they can't do this without donations from people like you.
Lots of love
Nikki
