Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm running my first ever 10k on Sunday 19th May at the Baker Hughes 10k in Aberdeen. When I originally signed up to run this 10k I did it because my boyfriend Alistair set me a challenge! And as many of you will know, I don't take a challenge lightly! And the fact that Alistair was the cocky challenger spurred me on even more!
So I signed up (in fact, Alistair actually signed me up) and my target was set to run it in under an hour. I was all ready to start my training and then tragedy struck my family. On Saturday 2nd February my big cousin Scott suddenly passed away. He was only 40 years old and left behind his wife Lorna and 3 year old daughter Milly.
The news shook the family and all the people who knew him. 2 months on and we still don't know why he was taken from us. I don't know if we will ever know why.
I wasn't planning to raise money for a charity through doing this run, I just wanted to win the challenge that Alistair set me. However, with Scott's sudden passing, I have decided that I want to raise money for SADS UK.
SADS UK aims to save lives, providing information, funding research and medical equipment to prevent premature sudden cardiac death. Working in the areas of Research, Prevention and Emergency Care lives have been saved as a direct result of the work of SADS UK.
Having been "training" for the past couple of months I now know it's VERY unlikely that I will achieve the target of running it in under an hour so my aim now is simply just to finish it, and in memory of my big cousin Scott. I don’t know how many more 10k’s I will run in my life but I’m sure that Scott would be delighted to be part of my first ever 10k run. He was a bit gym junkie and enjoyed thoroughly putting me through my paces once at the gym – so much so I couldn’t move for about 3 days afterwards! It’s safe to say that I never accompanied him to the gym again!
Anyway, donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now.
I'm also running the Race for Life on Sun 30th June too. This run will be to raise money for Cancer Research UK. If you are feeling particularly charitable, please pop over to that page and feel free to donate there too.
Thank you :-)
