Story
Having been ill with ME/CFS myself for 7 years and recovering completely I truly believe that we need to raise money for more research into ME/CFS/Fibromyalgia because without research it is extremely difficult to demonstrate how robust recovery is possible.
Now working for the Optimum Health Clinic, who treated my ME when I was ill, I constantly come into contact with clients who can't afford to continue paying for treatment that they so desperately want and need. Likewise having worked in the NHS myself I am incredibly aware how tight healthcare budgets are and how every pound spent has to be justified. I truly believe that investing money in research is one of the best ways things can move forward for a set of people who are so in need of access to effective treatment.
I'm embarking on a 30 day exercise challenge as one of the things I found most difficult when I was recovered was getting back into exercise because I was so fearful of the pain and fatigue of a crash. Likewise while I was recovering, finding forms of exercise that promoted the calm, healing state I needed to bring my body into was really difficult. So this challenge is about doing 30 consecutive days of exercise that are calm and healing to the body, suitable for clients at different stages of recovery and incorporates some fun as this is one thing that often goes out of the window when we are so ill.
It will definitely take me out of my physical comfort zone, require mental discipline to stick to it for a whole month so I'd be hugely grateful for any donations to this important cause.
And if anyone wants to join me in any of the exercises (from the comfort of your own home or in your local area) that would be great - just knowing that other 'Sofa Heros' are joining me along the journey will help keep me going! Just remember to stay within your own physical limits!
