Story

Walk in Her Name 2024 – 100km in March This Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, I am walking 100km in March. Walk in Her Name is so much more than a challenge; it's a collective step forward, a tribute to the women we love, a rally for change, and a beacon of hope for those living with and affected by ovarian cancer. To the incredible women facing ovarian cancer, this walk is a testament that you are not alone. 'Walk in Her Name' is a community of compassion. This is a pledge from all of us walkers to you. We are walking to remember. Walking to support. Walking to change the lives of women with ovarian cancer. Walking to fund the next big breakthrough. In her name – we walk.

At 3pm on Saturday 27th January, my beautiful sister Debbie took her final breath after a brave battle with Ovarian Cancer. She was only 62 and far too young to leave us.

It all started in March '23, with symptoms that seemed like nothing out of the ordinary. But as time went on, it became clear that something more serious was happening and in May '23 she was diagnosed with Stage 4 HGSC Ovarian Cancer.

Her journey was tough. From draining ascites to enduring rounds of chemo, she faced each hurdle head-on. There were setbacks along the way – bowel issues, infections, nerve pain, and constant bloating. But she never gave up hope, clinging to the chance of getting better.

In November, there was a glimmer of hope after surgery. But sadly, the cancer came back aggressively in early January, leaving no more options for treatment except to manage the symptoms.

Despite it all, she stayed strong. Even in her final moments, she held onto hope for tomorrow.

Now, her family and friends are coming together for the "Walk in Her Name" fundraiser for Ovarian Cancer Action. We are walking in her memory and raise awareness for this terrible disease.

As we walk, we will remember her strength and determination. We know that by taking each step, we're honoring her fight and helping others who are facing similar challenges.

In our hearts, she lives on, guiding us towards a future where ovarian cancer no longer takes loved ones away too soon.

Tragically our father, Tony Cutler, passed away a few days later on 31st January after a blow to the head from a fall. The joint funeral for Debbie and Tony is be held at Thanet Crematorium at 3.15 pm on Tuesday 5th March 2024.

We are also asking that anyone attending the funeral, instead of sending flowers, please donate to this fundraiser. Tony was heartbroken to have lost his daughter Debbie to Ovarian Cancer and would have been proud to support the cause and help prevent other families from suffering heartbreak by this disease as we have.

Thank you

We are the UK’s leading ovarian cancer research charity. In the UK only 1 in 3 women live more than 10 years after diagnosis. We are working to better prevent, treat and detect ovarian cancer, so that by 2032 at least half of women with ovarian cancer live for 10 years.
