Box Clever Theatre

Box Clever is an award-winning, writer-led theatre company dedicated to the creation of contemporary theatre for young people. They are a registered charity based in London, which works in schools all over the UK. 

Tom Burke is one of their official Patrons and is very supportive of Box Clever Theatre. He says:

So what better way for Tom’s lovely fan-base to support Box Clever and honour Tom’s love of Shakespeare than by raising funds toward rehearsal workshops for their schools programmes: ‘Boxed Romeo and Juliet’ and ‘Introduction to Shakespeare’ 

The Rehearsal in Residence Programme:

In spring 2016 Box Clever Theatre will be touring with these two programmes in 20 - 35 schools across the UK. As part of this work, one of these schools will have the amazing opportunity to have a “Rehearsal in Residence” programme.

This involves groups of school students (normally a group of 25-30 at a time) attending the rehearsals daily, over several weeks, to see how the director and actors work to create a new play. The cast and crew will hear the student’s feedback on what they’ve seen and have discussion on the texts and scenes as well. When the students visit the rehearsal again, they will see how their feedback has been reflected to the production. The involvement of the students informs the production, which then tours to other schools around the country.  

This is a fantastic way for young people to become inspired and learn not only about Shakespeare and theatre, but also about themselves and what they are capable of.

Box Clever Theatre needs £12,000 to run the ‘Rehearsal in Residence’ programme. I am setting a modest target of raising £2000 towards this by Christmas, through donations from Tom’s amazing fan-base. So Burketeers, Tom Burke fans everywhere - let’s see what we can do. J
